{Editor Marco's Note: Dear Readers: I am hard at work building a new commercial website for my funny articles. It will be free, like this one. Not only will it contain my Second Life humor, but funny articles about a variety of other topics. It should be ready by July 1st. Meanwhile, I am reposting some of my older articles.}

I Have A Cyber Dream (first published April 2008)

Dear Friends of Marco,

The last few weeks have been crazy, filled with griefers and lots ofcrashes and lag in Second Life. It might have been from sending too many group invites and my mind going blank or from listening to too much reggae or simply coz the sun is shining in Belgium (a rare occasion believe me) but I woke up this morning with a dream and I would like to share it with you all.

(ok, I admit it, I might have been inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King):

"Even though we face the lag of today and tomorrow, I have a cyberdream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Linden dream. I have a dream that one day this community will fly up and live out the true meaning of its creed:

<< We hold the TOS to be self-evident, that all residents are created equal. >>

I have a dream that one day on the sunny beach sims, the sons of former lindens and the sons of former residents will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the support site of SL, a site sweltering with the heat of annoyance, sweltering with the heat of ignorance, will be transformed into an oasis of understanding and solutions.

I have a dream that little avatars will one day live in a community where they will not be judged by the quality of their skin but by the content of their inventory (I mean character).

I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day, here in SL, with its vicious griefers, having their lips dripping with the words 'SPAM' and 'TOS violation' -- one day right here in SL, blog-owners will be able to join hands with ancient residents as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today! I have a dream that one day every crash will be history and every new viewer flawless, lag will be a bad dream and simborders won't transfer my hair to my ass;

<< and the glory of the Lindens shall be revealed and all avatars shall see it together.>>

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back online with. With this faith, we will be able to build a paradise made up off pixels. With this faith, we will be able to transform the griefing of certain residents into a symphony of understanding.

With this faith, we will be able to work together, to dance together, to crash together, to TP looking like a picasso together, to shout out for a working viewer together, knowing that we will be free of bugs one day.

And if Second Life is to be a great community, this must become true. And so let freedom ring from the techno-beats at Dance Island. Let freedom ring from the dancepoles at Quarters. Let freedom ring from the campbenches scattered around the lands. Let freedom ring from the lines at Money Island. From every sim, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every stripclub and every shop, from every island and from every skybox, we will be able to speed up that day when all of Linden's children, noobs and residents, neko's and furries, masters and slaves, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Avatar spiritual :

FREE AT LAST ! FREE AT LAST !
THANK LINDENS ALMIGHTY, WE ARE FREE OF BUGS AT LAST !!! "

Won't you share my dream with me ?

And if you didn't get the message I can always go on voice and start singing 'Imagine' but that would be sheer torture :-)
