No of course not. Just a game? Those who say that are in my humble opinion either incredibly insensitive, or males. No of course Second Life ® is not just a game. It is more of a "social networking vehicle." To think of Second Life ® as being "just a game" would be similar to calling the Phone book just a collection of pages with ink on them. Yes, it IS that, but it is so much more. The same applies to Second Life ® of course.
If it is just a game, why is it that:
....breaking up with someone hurts so damn much? I can't remember ever becoming so rejected, dejected, repressed or depressed for losing at Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly. You played those games and you either won, "Yayyyy!! High fives!!! Collect all the money!!" or you lost, "Damn, YOU cheated!" *kicks over the table* But I never wanted to go drown myself after losing a game of Monopoly.
...finding a new girl friend is so damn exhilirating? So I won all the checkers...."Yippee!" momentary happiness, "Let's play it again!" I may have a similar thought with my Second Life ® gf, "Ooooo baby, that was nicccccee.......let's do it again!" But generally with checkers I don't wan't to"do it" all day and all night! lol. I think my record in RL with a gf was 4 times in one day....others have told me they did it several times longer. But shoot, in RL ya have to rest, take a nap! Not so in Second Life ®!!! hahaha...this old fart can truly go all night and all day in Second Life ®. "OOOO, TMI MARCO!"
If it is just a game why is it that:
.....I get so durn pissed when other avies are rude to me? I mean, if I am driving my car in RL and some crazy nut driver cuts me off
I may wave "the bird" at him...but I can't remember one single time where I pulled out a "penis gun" and shot his car full of giant penises. Nor have I even worn a "Poop throwing monkey" on my shoulder in RL to throw stinky turds at people who rile me. (Hmmm GOOD idea!)
.....I get ticked off when males harass women for sex? I can just see it, one of these days I'll be in an RL club, and hear a guy say to a
girl, "Nice tits, can I fuck them?" and I'm gonna run up to him and push him away and yell "Back OFF you pasty-faced NOOB!"
....I feel the need to go out and buy my own personal "weapons systems"? Today I bought the Quantum Core system, and tried it out at home. It does some amazing things. Really cool. But can you just imagine going out and buying your own personal "weapons of mass destruction" in RL; maybe have my own personal ICBM in my pants? (Of course, many gals say that IS what I am packing in my pants, but that's another story, *wink.*) Really, in RL, where would I keep a major weapons system? Only in Second Life ® can you put it in your wallet or purse (Inventory) and carry such things around you:
"Hey Hun, whatcha got in your purse? It is kinda bulging there." "Oh , that is my personal InterContinental Ballistic Missile. You know the Joneses next door have been having those wild parties, and their guests keep throwing their beer cans in our yard. So I picked up this little thing down at the grocery store..." *Pulls the ICBM out of her purse.* "The NEXT time they throw a beer can in our yard....VOOOM! I'ma gonna nuke their sorry asses...kiss kiss hun, have a nice day at work!"
If it is just a game, why do I feel the need to:
....earn money in bizarre manners to pay for the cool things I want to buy? Really now, I can't remember ever wanting a new golf club in RL and saying "Shoot, I guess I better go put on my best slutty outfit and go dancing at the "Pure Sex" nightclub to make some quick cash."
...buy the coolest damn outfits known to man, so I can impress my gal-pals? Well, maybeeee I do have those urges in RL too, but I lack the funds to do it. Lord, can you imagine how much all those cool outfits we buy in Second Life ® would cost in RL? $10 in U.S. money is approximately $2500 Lindens...and I can buy some pretty damn cool outfits for that.
If it is just a game, why do I feel the need to:
......buy the best skin I can possibly afford to impress the gals? I can just see walking into Dillards or Macy's or some Haute Coutre place on Rodeo Drive in RL and saying...hmmmm "My skin is soooo last year's model, I need an upgrade." Of course new hair in RL is pretty easy to come by. Or to GO buy. But a whole new skin and shape? *sigh...wishes it were that easy.* Who needs Bowflex, or JennyCraig? Just buy a new shape and skin, and voila, a new me, HAWT! Wooohooo...and the cost...oh about $10 U.S,....YESSSSSS!
