Today, I want to talk about alts. Alternate accounts.
One of these days it will happen...you will be dancing at your favorite Sex-Me-Up nightclub and some avie you have never met before will sidle up to you and begin getting very personal. They will ask you questions about your partner or your friends, and in between answering them, you'll be wondering two things. 1) Where does this bozo-you've -never-met-before get off asking these personal questions, and 2) How do they know so much about you? And just about the time you start getting a little pissed at them, they will burst out laughing and tell you who they really are: your old pal, or friend, so-and-so. Annnnnd you will burst out laughing too (if you don't strangle them first) and shriek, "Arnold, is that REALLY you? You sure had me going there, you big goofball."
One time I played that little trick on a good friend of mine for a couple of weeks before I let her in on the secret. I'll call her LittleLil. She was a security officer with me at Dance Island many moons ago. I started an alt to be a male escort. And I carefully crafted him to look very similar to the real Marcophoto Upshaw. Hey, Marco had done pretty darn well with the Ladies, so why fix what ain't broke? So I bought virtually the same hair, skin, etc. Virtually the same, but not quite. This skin was slightly darker.
He took on the part of Marco's little brother...the BAAAAD BOY of the family. The last name of my first avie--Upshaw--had been retired by the Lindens, so little brother had to pick a different last name. We settled on an Italian last name, and a first name that was similar to my first...mine being Marcophoto and his being Ricophoto. I don't recall why I did that now, but it worked at the time. So anyway, Ricophoto introduced himself to LittleLil, saying that he and I had the same mother but different fathers. And we/he/me spun out this elaborate tale of how we both lived and worked and intereracted with each other and Second Life ® in the Chicago area.
It is amazing how alts soon takes on a life of their own, and very quickly I had established an elaborate charade--oops I mean persona--to go along with this character. Yet when I interacted with LittleLil, I FELTA Lotta Lika Rico, my little Italian brother. Perhaps this is the "writer" in me, because as I talked to her, the "story" just seemed to grow very naturally. I felt very at ease inside the alt of Rico.
Well a lot of goofy stuff happened, and NO I NEVER HAD SEX WITH THAT WOMAN! No, really I didn't. And Rico's escort days were very short...I think about two days and two encounters. He was just too darn nice and just did not have it in him to ask for the money. I remember that one gal "paid" him with a piece of jewelry he could have picked up free at any freebie place, and boy, it looked free too. She may be a reader of the blog, so I will leave it there. but it was a doosy.
And speaking of sex, what happens if your alt gets together with your real avie? Is that masturbation...or incest? One of my past girlfriends has several alts of herself, one of them WAS an escort. She told me that she regularly ran two or more avies at the same time on her computer. She wanted to bring herself and her escort alt together with me for a "threesome." I countered with the suggestion I bring MY escort alt, Rico along and we could have a foursome! Woooo, now THAT is something to wrap your brain around. But in the end, we just left her alt and Rico in a room together to do their thing, while the two of us went upstairs for some hankypanky.
But all good things must come to an end they say, and the same with Rico and LittleLil. I began to feel like I was lying to my good friend; I just could not tolerate that so I let her in on my little secret. And her response? She was a really good sport about it....i.e. she did NOT strangle me. she just shrieked, and said, "Marco, is that REALLY you? You sure had me going there, you big goofball." Hugz to you LittleLil!
